What to Wear on a Bourbon Tour (and What to Bring)

Booking a bourbon tour with Bourbon Hall Tours means you're in for more than just great whiskey—you're signing up for a personalized experience with premium service, luxury transportation, and handpicked distillery visits. Whether you're touring Louisville’s Urban Bourbon Trail® or heading deep into Bardstown or Frankfort, the question still comes up: what should I wear and bring on a Bourbon Tour?
Here’s everything you need to know to dress smart and pack right for the day.
What to Wear on a Bourbon Tour
1. Smart Casual Comfort
Our tours are relaxed, but you'll be visiting some of the most iconic distilleries in Kentucky—so comfortable, neat attire is ideal. Jeans, polos, casual dresses, or button-down shirts work well. Expect some time outdoors and walking through barrel warehouses, production rooms, and visitor centers.
Tour Tip: Some distilleries like Maker’s Mark or Buffalo Trace have scenic campuses—so dress for movement and photo ops!
2. Closed-Toe Shoes Required
For safety reasons,
closed-toe shoes are mandatory at nearly every distillery we visit. You’ll be on your feet exploring rickhouses, production areas, and maybe even walking on elevated catwalks. Opt for sneakers or casual boots.
Avoid: Sandals, heels, or anything slippery.
3. Prepare for Kentucky Weather
Kentucky weather can shift quickly, so layers are key. We suggest:
- A light jacket or sweater (especially in barrel warehouses)
- Sunglasses and/or a hat
- A small umbrella or rain jacket, depending on the forecast
Our luxury vehicles are climate-controlled and stocked with cold beverages and light snacks, so you’ll stay comfortable in between stops.
What to Bring on a Bourbon Tour
1. A Valid Photo ID
You must be 21+ to participate in tastings, and every distillery requires an ID—no exceptions, even if you’re arriving in style with us.
2. Your Appetite
While some of our tours include food stops (like lunch at Bardstown Bourbon Company or snacks at a tasting lounge), we also provide bottled water, soft drinks, and light snacks in every vehicle. Let us know in advance about dietary needs, and we’ll build in options.
3. A Notebook or Tasting App
With Bourbon Hall Tours, you’ll be sipping rare pours, barrel picks, and limited-edition releases. Bring a small notebook or use your phone to track your favorites—especially helpful if you're buying bottles along the way.
4. Extra Space for Bottles & Gifts
Our vehicles have ample trunk space for any bourbon you buy—and many distilleries offer exclusive bottles you can’t find elsewhere. Whether you're hand-dipping a bottle at Maker’s Mark or picking up a signed Four Roses Single Barrel, be ready to bring home some souvenirs.
5. Your Group’s Vibe (Optional)
Celebrating a bachelor or bachelorette party? Birthday? Corporate retreat? Many of our guests wear custom t-shirts, coordinated colors, or event swag to commemorate the day—and we’re all for it. Just let us know, and we’ll help you plan around the vibe.
Why It Matters
When you ride with Bourbon Hall Tours, we take care of the details—from reservations and timing to logistics and comfort. Dressing appropriately just helps you enjoy the experience fully—from the rick-house to the tasting room and everywhere in between.
